這首歌的原唱是Jennifer Holliday，她精湛的唱功，把這首歌唱的很有戲劇感；這首歌也是很多人想唱但怕會唱不好的歌 因為原唱已經唱的太經典了。新人Jennifer Hudson在電影夢幻女郎(Dreamgirls)中，重新唱了這首經典歌曲，並且一舉拿下當年度奧斯卡的最佳女配角。她是American Idol某一屆的參賽者，不過因為外型不佳的愚蠢理由，沒有拿到很高的名次。
原曲出自1981的百老匯舞台劇，當時創下連續演出1522場的成績，並得到東尼獎最佳音樂劇本，最佳音樂劇男女主角等共 6 大獎；Jennifer Holliday在劇中扮演女主角Effie，更因此聲名大噪，獲得全美 R & B單曲第一名，更拿下葛萊美最佳節奏藍調女歌手及最佳新人獎；不過可能是因為這首歌太紅了，從此不管Holliday唱什麼，大家都只會想到這首歌。
這首歌是Effie (Jennifer Hudson) 對Curtis (Jamie Foxx) 所唱的歌，在劇中Curtis早就不愛Effie，而且已經愛上Deena( Beyoncé Knowles)，但Effie已經懷了Curtis的孩子，雖然Curtis並不知情。最後Effie獨自在舞台上唱出這首歌。
